In light of Manchester City’s recent poor performance, Thierry Henry feels Pep Guardiola need to be “challenged” for allowing Cole Palmer and two other attackers to depart.
With eight losses in their last 12 games, City’s late collapse in Sunday’s derby match against rivals Man United was yet another historic low for Guardiola and his reigning champions.
Guardiola’s worst period as manager has coincided with City’s inability to penetrate opponent defenses as readily as they have in the past and concerns about the team’s lack of forwards who can score goals.
Though he questions why Alvarez, Palmer, and Riyad Mahrez were permitted to depart the team, Arsenal icon Henry, who was formerly coached by Guardiola at Barcelona, thinks the City manager can turn things around.

‘We all know, it’s the first time and we’re allowed to say it, that we can challenge his decisions in the way of letting Cole Palmer go, Riyad Mahrez, Julian Alvarez,’ he told Sky Sports as reported by the Daily Mail.
‘Ilkay Gundogan came back and it’s not the same Gundogan who scored 17 goals a season.
‘You’re missing those goals. Erling Haaland is scoring the same goals, a few less than in his first season but he’s doing what he does usually.
‘I’ve seen him miss sitters in every season but where are the goals of Mahrez, Alvarez or Kevin De Bruyne, Gundogan – where are those goals?,’ he added.
