Henry: Why I would have loved to have played with Toni Kroos

Former France striker Thierry Henry has revealed that he would have loved to have played with Toni Kroos because the midfielder always seeks to play forward passes.

Kroos delivered a masterclass as Germany beat Ukraine 2-0 in their opening game of Euro 2016, with the midfielder registering a stellar pass accuracy of 95%.

The Real Madrid midfielder also created five chances and provided an assist for Shkodran Mustafi to open the scoring as the World Cup winners commenced their quest to be crowned European champions.

Speaking on BBC’s Match of the Day following Germany’s win, Henry said: “I would have loved to have played with him [Kroos] because every time he wants to play it forward and never will a centre-forward tell you he doesn’t like that… He’s just a joy to watch.”

Germany made it 2-0 in the closing stages, with substitute Bastian Schweinsteiger finishing from Mesut Ozil’s expert delivery.

With Kroos at the hub of their midfield, Germany have a very good chance of enjoying a successful tournament, as the 26-year-old is capable of setting the tempo of a game with his slick passes.

Germany, who are one of the favourites to win the tournament, continue their campaign against Poland on Thursday, although that game is likely to be a significantly more challenging encounter than yesterday’s fixture.

Progression to the knockout stages, though, will surely be a formality for Joachim Low’s side, who are widely expected to prevail past Northern Ireland in their final group game.
