Arsenal legend Thierry Henry has claimed that the Premier League trophy should be named after former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson.
Ferguson won the Premier League on 13 occasions before retiring four years ago and United haven’t lifted the trophy since his departure.
As reported by the Telegraph, Henry said on Sky Sports: “When I met him for the first time, I called him Mr. Premier League. Thirteen. this is ridiculous. The trophy we see right there should have his name.
“People might disagree with this, and I’m not a Man United fan. Thirteen times? This is too much.
“His ability to change his staff, bring a new number two and a new voice helped.
“I think he knew what he wasn’t good at and so he selected coaches to do the stuff he wasn’t good at.”
United remain the most successful club in Premier League history, some way ahead of second-placed Chelsea, who have won the competition on five occasions.
Ferguson managed some superb players at United during the Premier League era but it was the Scotsman’s ability to build cohesive teams and get the best out of different members of his squad which led to much of the club’s success.
This season United will be hoping to finally end their wait to win the title, with Jose Mourinho’s side having made an impressive start to the campaign by thrashing West Ham United 4-0.
United are back in action on Saturday afternoon when they travel to face Swansea City.
