Arsenal’s top goal scorer Thierry Henry has tipped Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane to break Alan Shearer’s Premier League goals record.
Former Newcastle United striker Shearer scored 260 goals in the competition before retiring a decade ago, while Kane became the quickest player to score 60 Premier League goals for Spurs with his first against West Bromwich Albion at the weekend.
Henry told Sky Sports: “He can do it, why not? It is possible. Everything that will happen in his life from now needs to be right in order to beat the big man, Alan Shearer.
“It is doable and I think he can do it.”
Despite missing five Premier League games, the England international is the club’s top scorer with 13 goals in 16 games, as well as two assists.
He ended the game against the Baggies with the match ball as his hat-trick and a Gareth MacAuley own goal gave them a 4-0 win and took then up to second in the league.
The 23-year-old is one game away from making a century of league appearances for his boyhood club and recently signed a new contract to keep him at White Hart Lane until 2022.
