Bayern Munich president Uli Hoeness is confident of signing Manchester City’s Leroy Sane next summer for less than 100m euros, according to reports. The Bavarians made no secret of the desire to snare the 23-year-old winger during the summer transfer window. However, they were unable to secure a deal for the Germany international.
City were not keen to sell, while recent reports have suggested the player’s wage demands ended any hopes of a transfer being completed.
Whether that was the case is open to debate but the injury he picked up during the Citizens’ Community Shield victory over Liverpool ended any possibility of a switch.
It has been said the former Schalke man is keen on a return to his homeland and would move to the Allianz Arena given the chance but, as ever in football, it will be down to finances in the end.
Sportbild are reporting Hoeness is upbeat about the Bundesliga giants’ chances of landing their man and ‘does not think’ they will need to go above their 100m euros budget to complete the deal.
Whether the Premier League champions agree with the Bayern chief is another matter and they will certainly not let the talented wideman leave the club on the cheap.
Although he will play little or no part in the 2019-20 campaign due to an ACL injury, there is no doubting Sane’s class, with 39 goals from 134 appearances for Pep Guardiola’s side since arriving in the summer of 2016.
