Holbrook relieved to win Grand Final

Justin Holbrook admits it would be been “horrible” to end his stint as St Helens coach without winning the Super League Grand Final. The Saints righted the wrongs of 2018 by beating Salford Red Devils 23-6 at Old Trafford on Saturday evening. Tries from Morgan Knowles, Zeb Taia and Mark Percival were enough to sink Ian Watson’s side and secure the Merseyside club first Grand Final win since 2014. Last year, after leading for so long, they were defeated in the play-off stage by eventual runners-up Warrington Wolves at the Totally Wicked Stadium. However, they completed the job this season to end Holbrook’s tenure on a very positive note as he is now set to take up the head coach role at NRL side Gold Coast Titans. The 43-year-old says he can leave a happy man after the Grand Final win. “I feel content that we have won it,” he said. “It would have been a horrible feeling for me to be leaving having not won it. “Now I am content with the whole effort we have put in here.”
