Red Bull boss Christian Horner says his team did the right thing after demoting Pierre Gasly back to Torro Rosso. The Frenchman only got to experience one year with Toro Rosso before he was promoted to be Max Verstappen’s team-mate. While senior figures at Red Bull thought the move came too soon, they were forced into it after Daniel Ricciardo joined Renault in a shock move. Gasly was demoted after the Hungarian Grand Prix after Verstappen lapped him in a real display of dominance. However, he has since shown signs of his best after scoring points in four of his seven races with Toro Rosso. Horner believes he is improving under less pressure and he has piled the praise on the 23-year-old. He told Autosport: “It was very tough for him coming into the start of the season off the back off two accidents in pre-season and that I think definitely affected his confidence. “And of course being the team-mate to Max Verstappen is a very tough job to have, having that reference point. “We felt that with the pressure building on him, the public pressure, the media scrutiny, it was right to remove him from that and put him into the slightly less pressured environment of Toro Rosso. “Since that switch I think he has driven exceptionally well. You can see his confidence is growing. He’s driven some very strong races and his pace is getting better and better.”
