Howe – Moss the man to mentor young goalkeepers

Eddie Howe says the development of Bournemouth’s young goalkeepers is in safe hands under the tutelage of Neil Moss. The now 44-year-old spent two spells with the club as a player, making over 150 appearances, and has worked on the coaching staff since 2009.
Moss’ second spell between the sticks at the Vitality Stadium coincided with Howe’s playing days and the pair go back a long way.
The Bournemouth boss’ faith currently sees the former goalkeeper guiding the progress of the club’s emerging shot-stopping talent.
Irishman Mark Travers finished last season with the gloves although it is Aaron Ramsdale who started this campaign after he impressed following loan stints at Chesterfield and AFC Wimbledon.
The 21-year-old has become a regular for the England Under-21s and recently signed a bumper long-term deal to keep him at the Vitality.
With veteran Artur Boruc also around to push the pair, as well as another youngster in Will Dennis, neither are likely to stand still in their development and Howe thinks they have the perfect man looking after them.
During his heyday, Moss was a capable operator and his old friend believes he has plenty of wisdom to impart to his young charges. “In terms of the goalkeeping, yes,” he told the Bournemouth Echo. “Because I think Mossy was a very, very good shot-stopper. Very agile and had a very good mentality to goalkeeping. “On a serious note, Mossy’s been almost a mentor for those guys. He had such a good mentality as a goalkeeper. Those guys have learnt a lot from him.”
Ramsdale has kept successive clean sheets in the goalless draws against Norwich and Watford, his first two of the season.
The Chesterton-born custodian will be hoping to extend that run on Saturday lunchtime when the Cherries host Manchester United.
