Huddersfield Town have sacked Danny Schofield as head coach following their 2-1 loss at home to Wigan on Tuesday.
The 42-year-old is well-liked behind the scenes at John Smith’s Stadium because of the impact he had on the backroom staff during Carlos Corberan’s tenure.
His standing at the Yorkshire club resulted in him being promoted to the position of head coach after Corberan unexpectedly resigned in July.
The Spaniard’s departure came little over three weeks before the start of the Terriers’ new Championship campaign, which began with a home game against Burnley.
Despite finishing second in the Championship playoffs, Huddersfield were soundly outplayed by the Clarets, and it set the tone for the rest of the season.
Huddersfield Town are 23rd in the second-tier rankings after a 2-1 defeat at home to Wigan Athletic on Tuesday evening, five points away of safety.
Only Coventry City, who have played three fewer games than Huddersfield, are below them in the table.
Schofield won just one of his nine games as manager, losing seven, and the club’s management will now explore for a new face.
