Marcus Rashford says he wants others to take the same path he did. This came after he signed a new five-year contract with Manchester United. He did this in order to keep the club’s historic 85-year streak of having a homegrown player in every matchday squad alive.
In an interview posted on the club’s official website, the Wythenshawe-born Academy grad was asked about United’s long-standing record that dates back to 1937.
[It’s] massive,” he said. “[It’s] massively important, and it’s a part of the club’s history and the DNA now.
“It’s a huge part of the club and, you know. I hope that it continues because at the end of the day, if you’re from Manchester and you get the opportunity to play for the club that you support, it’s a huge honour.
“I hope that more people get to experience it.”
Rashford claims that he makes an effort to assist Academy players as much as possible. When they go up to the senior team because this is the path he travelled to make his breakthrough in 2016.
“Yeah, 100 per cent [I try and give advice]. And I’d always encourage that because for me, football is just about experiences.

“And you know, you can meet some young players and they’ve played in the biggest games. And you can share those experiences with players younger than them. So it’s not necessarily about age.
“So, I always encourage the younger lads to speak up. When they want to speak up and I think it helps them settle in as well. Especially with this manager because he’s having them train with us a lot more frequently as well.”
