Paris Saint-Germain forward, Kylian Mbappe says he should be considered for the 2023 Ballon d’Or award.
After scoring the game-winning goal for France in their 1-0 victory against Greece on Monday. Mbappe surpassed Just Fontaine’s record of 54 goals for club and country which was set in 1957–1958.
Mbappe now holds the record for the most goals scored by a French player in a season in France.
This year, the 25-year-old contributed to Paris Saint-Germain retaining the Ligue 1 crown. He also made an impression in the World Cup, winning the Golden Boot. And netting three goals in the final against eventual champions Argentina.
When asked if he ought to be considered for the Ballon d’Or this year, Mbappe told TF1 as reported by ESPN: “It’s always difficult to talk about an individual trophy, because you have to put yourself forward on your own and that’s something that doesn’t necessarily pass in the eyes of the general public.
“The new criteria, it’s about burning eyes, it’s someone who has had an impact… I think I correspond to these criteria, so I would say…yes. But we’ll see.”
The PSG forward will be vying for this year’s prized award against Lionel Messi and Erling Haaland.

Haaland scored 52 goals in his first season with Manchester City. Helping them win an unprecedented treble. While Messi was crowned the World Cup’s best player after helping Argentina win the Mundial.
This summer, Mbappe’s future remains uncertain as the forward informed PSG in a letter that he had no intention of renewing his contract, which ends in 2024.
Although Mbappe claimed he is set on staying in France for the upcoming season. Real Madrid are said to be interested in signing him this summer.
