“I Respect Arteta” – Player Says He Has No Regrets For Rejecting Arsenal

Arsenal expressed a strong interest in signing Manuel Locatelli before he joined Juventus from Sassuolo in 2021.

The Serie A club initially signed the midfielder on a two-year loan with a buyout clause that was exercised in 2023.

Locatelli has maintained his status as a starter at Juve, even despite Thiago Motta’s arrival in the summer. He’s started in six matches this season, including one in the Champions League win over PSV Eindhoven last week.

Tuttosport published a detailed interview with the 26-year-old, during which he discussed Arsenal’s interest.

The tabloid immediately asked the Italian international if he ever considered the Gunners’ proposition. He responded by praising Mikel Arteta.
“No, but since I love watching the games I also watch their’s and I respect their coach, Arteta,” stated the guy.

Earlier this year, Sassuolo chairman Giovanni Carnevali said that Arsenal offered more money than the Old Lady club for Locatelli. However, he ultimately accepted Juventus’ proposal owing to personal preference.

Locatelli was linked with a move to the north London club during the summer window, but there was no formal contact from Arsenal. His contract runs until 2028, and it will be intriguing to see whether the Gunners return for him in the future.
