Adon Sancho had some great performances at Chelsea, scoring five goals in his ten Premier League outings since leaving United in the summer.
Danny Murphy, a former Liverpool midfielder, has highlighted the young player’s failings, with United ultimately blaming former manager Erik Ten Hag for the lack of support.
“At a club like United, he should have been guided through that, as I was at Liverpool by Gerard Houllier, to whom I’ll always be grateful,” Murphy wrote in his Mail Online column.
Murphy was helped through his ‘dip’ at Liverpool by Houllier, which influenced his belief that Ten Hag fell short in supporting Sancho. Ruben Amorim may now be wondering ‘what if’ he had been manager at Manchester United during Sancho’s time there.

“Sancho’s numbers as a teenager at Dortmund were amazing,” she said. “He went downhill at United but demonstrated willingness by accepting a wage cut to join Chelsea. That is not the action of a young Flash Harry who is simply concerned about money.
“Looking back on his United slump, it’s almost unavoidable for a player of Sancho’s age to let their ego take over and become too big for their boots at times.”
Sancho originally described his move to Manchester United as “a dream come true,” but after struggling under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick, Ten Hag openly fell out with the player, effectively ending his chances of success.
“I’m afraid that Ten Hag failed Sancho in that respect but Maresca’s style suits the winger,” according to Murphy.
“He wants him to be brave and to try and beat people; flicking the ball over the feet of defenders and going past them like he did as a teenager in Germany.”
