Zlatan Ibrahimovic has admitted that Manchester United have been “stuck” in sixth in the Premier League for far too long but believes the club can climb further up the table.
United have occupied sixth in the league since October and despite the Red Devils being unbeaten in the top flight since the end of October they have struggled to move from the position.
A 2-0 win over Watford on Saturday did see Jose Mourinho’s side briefly move up to fifth but Liverpool’s win against Tottenham by the same scoreline promptly returned them back down to more familiar territory.
Ibrahimovic is disappointed that United have been stranded in sixth place for so long but also recognises that all they can do is continue to win and hope other sides drop points.
Ibrahimovic told the club’s official website: “We know where we are and that we have been stuck in the same position for many months.
“We had it [fifth spot] for 20 minutes perhaps and we are back in the same position now, but we know what we need to do. We need to keep winning to climb in the table and hope the others lose points and we can go past them.”
Since moving to United Ibrahimovic has been excellent for the club, scoring 15 goals already in his maiden Premier League season to put the Swede right in the race for the Golden Boot award.
