Manchester United ended the weekend a lot happier than previous weeks as they felt they got the win they deserved against Tottenham Hotspur, according to Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
Prior to the 1-0 win, the Red Devils had drawn their previous three games and felt they weren’t picking up the points their performances deserved.
The winner was Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s first league goal, but the celebrations were on hold after he was carried off on a stretcher and is expected to be out of action until Boxing Day when they host former manager David Moyes’ Sunderland side.
Ibrahimovic told BBC Sport: “We’re super happy. We got the three points today which we’ve deserved in many games. I think we controlled the game. It’s the three points that counts.
“We have been disappointed absolutely. The team has worked hard and kept their heads up. I’m confident we will close that gap on the teams above us.
“Every day that goes we get better. We get to know each other. Everything is new, especially for me- the more we know each other the stronger we get.”
United remain sixth in the table but they are now just three points behind Spurs, and six behind Manchester City in the last Champions League place.
They have two away games prior to the game against the Black Cats; a visit to Crystal Palace’s Selhurst Park in midweek and then they travel to West Bromwich Albion at the weekend.
After an impressive start to the season, the Baggies are only two places and four points behind them.
