Manchester United striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic has insisted that he and his teammates will not give up on their aim to become champions.
The Swedish striker is the joint leading scorer in the top flight this season with 15 goals, alongside Diego Costa and Alexis Sanchez.
He has been a revelation since arriving from Paris Saint-Germain last summer and, aged 35, he is still scoring at a regular rate at the top level in European football.
Ibrahimovic, however, has had to watch Chelsea run away with the league title this season but has insisted that he and his teammates will not give up on becoming champions.
“For me, the main objective is to help my team win and do their best and, afterwards, we see what happens,” he said, via the club’s official website.
“We are working hard and we really want to reach the top four and the Champions League. To be champions, it will be hard but this is our aim and we don’t give up.
“I think we are back in the hunt. It was a big gap a couple of months ago but it is smaller now. We have been our own enemy. If we had won our games and got the points we should have got, the situation would have been totally different. But, okay, now we look at other teams and hope they lose points.”
Anthony Martial was Man United’s top scorer last season with 17 goals in all competitions but Ibrahimovic has already eclipsed that and with many more games left to play.
The Swede has hit 20 goals already with United still having the knockout rounds of the Europa League, several more rounds of the FA Cup and 14 more matches in the league.
