Zlatan Ibrahimovic has urged his Manchester United team-mates to keep their heads up and keep going after a disappointing 1-1 draw with Bournemouth on Saturday.
The 35-year-old striker was Manchester United’s hero a week ago after the former Barcelona and Inter Milan striker scored twice in the EFL Cup final.
Indeed, Ibrahimovic’s 87th-minute winner sealed a 3-2 win against Southampton in the League Cup showpiece and secured Jose Mourinho’s first major trophy.
The former Sweden international had scored 15 times in 24 games in the Premier League ahead of the visit of the Cherries at Old Trafford this weekend.
But Ibrahimovic failed to extend his tally from the penalty spot after the summer signing missed a second-half penalty to secure three points for the Red Devils.
Joshua King’s spot-kick had earlier cancelled out Marcos Rojo’s opener at Old Trafford as Manchester United missed the chance to close ground on Liverpool.
Speaking to Manchester United’s website about their disappointing 1-1 stalemate, Ibrahimovic said:
“We’ll keep working, keep going and keep our heads up. I mean if you create so many chances, you should score.
“You expect to score, you want to score. We missed a lot of opportunities today and I shoud have scored. We only took only one point and it should have been there with the situation we had, the advantage of playing one more. We should have closed the game already in the first half.”
