Ukraine and Dynamo Kiev winger Andriy Yarmolenko admits he is not interested
in a move to Barcelona as he feels it would do nothing but benefit his social
media account.
The 26-year-old has long been linked with a move away from Ukraine, but
recently signed a new deal which extended his stay in Kiev.
However, the new deal was thought to be a way of just commanding a fee for
when Yarmolenko does eventually leave, after his previous contract was due to
run out this summer.
Everton have been one of the sides that have been heavily tipped to sign
Yarmolenko, while Barcelona have also been surprisingly interested in the
no.10 star.
However, Yarmolenko has no interest in a move to La Liga to link up with the
Spanish giants and would prefer to Everton for more game-time.
“It is better to play at Everton,” Yarmolenko said, as reported by the
Liverpool Echo.
“Of course, you can go to Barcelona, make a cool selfie with (Lionel) Messi,
put the images on Instagram and get a million likes and be pleased with
yourself. But I’m not one of those.
“For me it is important to play matches. If I do not play twice a week, I
have nowhere to throw out the emotions and energy. My family will go mad. If
I play, the next day I am all calm and smile. If I missed the game and lay in
the house, I immediately run into a quarrel.”
Yarmolenko, who was born in Russia but has 55 caps for Ukraine and 22 goals
in the process, has been with Dynamo Kiev since 2007.
The fleet-footed winger has made a hefty 282 appearances over nine seasons
and has managed a return of 108 goals – remarkable for a player who is not an
out-and-out striker.
Everton were busy in the January window after signing Oumar Niasse from
Lokomotiv Moscow and Shani Tarashaj.
