Heartland FC of Owerri have officially filed a complaint with the Nigerian League Management Company (LMC), after their goalkeeper and John Mikel Obi’s elder brother Ebele was allegedly beaten to stupor by the owner of IfeanyiUbah FC, Dr Ifeanyi Ubah in a league fixture in Nnewi.
The match which ended 1-0 in favour of the home team courtesy of a sixth minute penalty, reportedly turned violent after Heartland goalkeeper Ebele confronted the referee at the end of the match for alleged bias.
According to sources at the venue, Dr Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah allegedly rushed to the pitch and descended on the former Rangers goalkeeper with his thugs and a brawl ensued.
Speaking exclusively to Isoccer, the media officer of the Naze Millionaires Solomon Onu confirmed the incident and called what his team went through in Nnewi as ‘hell’.
He said: “We saw hell at Nnewi. Most worrisome is the fact that the assault on our players as barbaric as it were was done by the Dr Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah himself, the owner of the club.”
“Heartland FC have lodged petition with the LMC and we also added video footage of the incident. We demand a public apology from Chief Ubah and financial compensation for our injured players. We also want IfeanyiUbah FC banished from Nnewi,” a bitter Onu told Isoccer.
