Iker Casillas Claims Twitter Account Was Hacked After “Gay” Tweet

Iker Casillas claims that a message he sent from his personal Twitter account declaring his sexual orientation was the result of a hack.

The update was shared with his 10 million followers on Sunday afternoon by the former Real Madrid and Spain goalie.

“Hacked account,” Casillas posted. “Luckily everything in order. Apologies to all my followers. And of course, more apologies to the LGBT community.”

The original post, which had said, “I hope you respect me, I’m gay,” had been deleted from the account about 30 minutes earlier.

Meanwhile, initially responding to Casillas’ post, former Barcelona captain Carles Puyol tweeted: “It’s time to tell them about us”.

However, Puyol likewise deleted his post following Casillas’ deletion. Later, Puyol tweeted an apology that read: “I was mistaken.

“Sorry for a clumsy joke without any bad intentions but absolutely out of place.

“I understand that it could have hurt feelings. All my respect and support for the LGBTQ+ community.”

Josh Cavallo called the incident between Casillas and Puyol “disappointing.” Josh became the first openly homosexual active player in men’s professional football last year.

“Iker Casillas and Carles Puyol joking and making fun out of coming out in football is disappointing,” Cavallo said on Twitter.

“It’s a difficult journey that any LGBTQ+ ppl have to go through. To see my role models and legends of the game make fun out of coming out and my community is beyond disrespectful.”
