Viktor Gyokeres should join Manchester United after demonstrating that the Championship and Premier League are not that far apart.
That is the opinion of former United forward Andy Cole, who himself successfully transitioned from a goalscorer in the Old Division One to a goalscorer in the Premier League at Newcastle United.
That encouraged United to spend big money on Cole in the winter of 1995, and he went on to win nine major championships at Old Trafford.

Gyokeres was prolific at Championship level for Coventry City, and since moving to Sporting CP in Portugal, he has reached new heights.
The 26-year-old has 66 goals in 68 outings for the Portuguese champions, with 21 in 18 games this season across all competitions.
With former Sporting manager Ruben Amorim taking over as Manchester United manager today, there is suspicion that Gyokeres could follow him at the conclusion of the season, given forwards Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee’s goal-scoring problems.
Cole believes he should make the transfer if United can stay under their FFP constraints, and he is confident he will be a success for United.
“A lot of teams will look abroad at players and think ‘they could play in the Premier League’, but there’s a lot of players in the Championship that could be given the same opportunity,” Cole told betting site Betfred.
“That’s how I see things. Gyökeres has moved from the Championship to a foreign league and flourished, so I often wonder if the gap is really that large. I do not believe it is. The championship is a challenging league at the best of times, so if you can score goals there, you should be able to do so elsewhere as well.
