Matt Targett of Newcastle United had a tremendous day last night. Before yesterday’s match at Old Trafford, the 28-year-old has only started two games in all competitions, and he would have wanted to show Eddie Howe and the coaching staff what he’s all about.
However, Targett was injured just a minute into the game.
He was in a lot of discomfort, so Howe had no choice but to remove him off the field. He was substituted early in the game by Miguel Almiron.
Newcastle went on to beat Manchester United without Targett yesterday night, but Howe appeared concerned about the left-back after the game.
Speaking to BBC Sport about Targett’s injury, the Newcastle boss said: “He is in pain and is struggling to walk now. It doesn’t look good.”

lnjuries are hurting Newcastle
Newcastle United have had terrible luck with injuries this season.
The Magpies are currently without Harvey Barnes, Jacob Murphy, Elliot Anderson, Alexander Isak, Lewis Miley and Javier Manquillo.
Now, Targett has joined the list, and Howe’s comments after the game suggest that it’s not a minor issue for the left-back, who joined Newcastle on a permanent deal for £15 million last year (BBC).
Newcastle United fans should get an update on Targett’s injury in Howe’s press conference before the Arsenal game this weekend.
