Barcelona midfielder Andres Iniesta believes Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has proven himself to be one of the “great” managers in the game over the last few years.
The German tactician took over as Liverpool manager in October last year, arriving with a reputation as one of the brightest and most charismatic coaches in the game.
Klopp had spent seven years in charge of Borussia Dortmund, where he won the Bundesliga on two occasions and helped the German giants reach the Champions League final.
In the German’s first six months in charge of Liverpool, the Reds reached two cup finals – albeit losing both – and in turn he received plenty of praise from the neutrals.
And speaking ahead of the International Champions Cup pre-season fixture on Saturday against Liverpool at Wembley, Barcelona star Iniesta was the latest to hail Klopp.
“I think he’s done a very good job wherever he’s been,” Iniesta told reporters at his press conference on Friday. “He’s certainly one of the great coaches of recent years.”
Saturday’s game in the capital will see former Liverpool striker Luis Suarez come up against his former club, after spending three-and-a-half years with the Reds.
Klopp did not manage the Uruguay international – Suarez left Liverpool when Brendan Rodgers was in charge back in 2014 – but it still promises to be an eye-catching reunion between the respective parties.
Liverpool will take on Klopp’s former side Mainz just 24 hours later in their final pre-season fixture, although it is hugely likely the German coach will deploy a different XI for that game.
