Super Green Football Club, also known as the SCFC Eagles of Maryland, after the American State they’re based in, are the fairytale team which is breaking all records in their march to the pinnacle of soccer in the United States of America.
Formed just five years ago, the team has witnessed phenomenal growth from a bunch of guys in Sunday-morning kick-abouts to professional football in the American Soccer League, the third-tier of football in the United States.
And this is all partly thanks to Nigerian Richard Opanuga, head coach and part-owner of the Franchise team, who told Complete Football’s Kayode OGUNDARE that he ultimately wants to make the team a model in talent development while helping to promote Nigerian football.
“The main purpose of this team is to serve as a breeding ground for players to gain international experience before they’re ready to play for any of the Nigerian national teams. Even though our focus is on players’ development and grooming for European careers, the natural progression for the club is to move to the Major League Soccer,” he said in an interview published in the May edition of Complete Football digital edition.
