Insigne insists Ancelotti spat is now in the past

Lorenzo Insigne is adamant his spat with Napoli coach Carlo Ancelotti “is water under the bridge” after his winning goal against RB Salzburg on Wednesday. The 28-year-old Italy international has been a key player for the Partenopei since breaking into the first team back in 2012.
Insigne has now scored 81 goals in 312 appearances for the club, including the crucial strike in the Champions League clash against Salzburg in Austria.
That was his fourth in nine outings so far this term, but it came after he stepped off the bench having been left out of the starting XI by Ancelotti.
There has been talk of a falling out between Insigne and the manager in recent weeks, while the owner Aurelio De Laurentiis also spoke out last week and urged the player to “change his attitude”.
But after Insigne followed up Dries Merten’s brace with the 73rd-minute winner and then ran to celebrate with Ancelotti.
Speaking afterwards, he said: “What happened with Ancelotti is water under the bridge. I respect him a great deal and he has always shown that he has faith in me, even when I didn’t play, so I felt important to him. “I had some wrong attitudes before, I apologised for that. I also want to dedicate the goal to Tommaso, our kitman, because he had a slight accident and wasn’t able to come to Salzburg with us. We all wish him the best.”
Insigne will hope his goal will lead to him returning to the starting XI for Sunday’s Serie A trip to SPAL.
