Inter Milan could have a battle on their hands to keep Lautaro Martinez at the club beyond the January transfer window. The 22-year-old Argentine, who has 15 senior caps for his country, has been catching eye with his performance in Serie A, with the Nerazzurri making a strong start to the campaign under manager Antonio Conte.
Martinez’s efforts have not gone unnoticed and Premier League giants Manchester United are believed to be weighing up a move for the forward in January.
United and Inter did plenty of business over the summer, with Romelu Lukaku joining the Serie A outfit on a permanent deal, while Red Devils forward Alexis Sanchez also moved to the San Siro but on a loan deal.
Reports have suggested United are keeping tabs on former Racing Club starlet Martinez’s progress.
The loss of Lukaku and Sanchez has left manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer light in the attacking department at Old Trafford, with much resting on the shoulders of England youngster Marcus Rashford.
However, the South American would not come cheap if they were to make a move in the January window, with speculation suggesting United could have to fork out £95m to secure the services of the rising star.
Whether United could work in a swap deal that would see Sanchez make his return to Italy a permanent one remains to be seen, but the price-tag is big for a player unproven in the Premier League.
