Italian football icon, Roberto Baggio was reportedly injured during a violent robbery while watching Spain vs Italy European Championship encounter in his home.
According to Il Corriere della Sera as reported by Football Espana, at least five armed attackers stormed into Baggio’s home as he was at home watching the game with his family.
Baggio was struck in the head by the butt of a gun when he challenged the criminals. For the next 40 minutes, he and his family were kept captive in a room while the perpetrators stole watches, jewelry, and cash while wrecking every room they passed through. Following their successful escape, Baggio contacted the military police.
Following the robbers’ departure, Baggio and his family were brought to the hospital, where the former Italy international had his head injuries stitched up. Other than the shock of what had happened, the family were unharmed.
Nowadays, football players tend to be easy targets for burglaries. this is because they have minimal privacy regarding their living situations.

While most players are robbed while they are playing, the Ballon d’Or winner in this instance paid the price.
Baggio was a successful footballer, who plied his whole career in Italy where he played for the likes of Juventus, Inter Milan, Fiorentina, Bologna and a host of others.
