It’s a No from Parma – Rodwell’s Serie A dream could be over

Parma have told Jack Rodwell to go home after a week of training with the Serie A club, denting the midfielder’s chances of a move to Italy. Rodwell’s Serie A dream could be over after the ex-Everton and Manchester City midfielder, who doesn’t have a club at the moment, failed to win a deal at the Ennio Tardini Stadium.
A report from Alfredopedulla.com states that the 28-year-old trained with Roberto D’Aversa’s squad last week after being unsuccessful in his attempts to earn a contract with Italian giants Roma in October.
It appears he came closer to earning a deal in the capital with reports at the time even stating he was set to become a Roma player, subject to passing a medical.
Rodwell is able to sign on a free transfer outside the transfer window because he is out of contract, but his match fitness won’t be up to scratch because he has not played a competitive match since the end of April.
That was when he last turned out for Blackburn Rovers and the Englishman may now need to look closer to home to find employment.
Rodwell, who made 23 appearances for Blackburn last season, was linked to Sheffield United earlier this week but it would be a huge shock to see him involved in the Premier League again.
The Englishman’s once glittering career took a huge downturn after he moved to Sunderland from City in a £10million deal in summer 2014.
He left the Black Cats in summer 2018 having made only three appearances in all competitions in the 2017-18 campaign when the side was relegated to League One.
However, Blades boss Chris Wilder is no stranger at giving former good prospects an opportunity to resurrect their careers, having signed former Manchester United and West Ham starlet Ravel Morrison in the summer.
