Arsenal youngster Alex Iwobi has expressed his disappointment that he was unable to secure his side the win in their 1-1 Champions League game at Paris Saint-Germain.
After conceding Edison Cavani’s goal after 42 seconds, the visitors spent most the game looking for the equaliser which came in the 77th minute from Alexis Sanchez, after Alphonse Areola parried Iwobi’s shot.
The 20-year-old told Arsenal Player: “I had the chance to score, but my main focus was to get it on target and also beat the goalkeeper, but it was a good save and I was unfortunate not to get the goal.
“The first chance I had I thought I was going to score [too], but I was just lucky Alexis put it away and I was just happy we were able to get a goal and come back into the game.”
As one of the younger members of the team, the attacker was being slightly harsh on himself as more senior teammates like Nacho Monreal, Shkodran Mustafi also didn’t seem to perform to the best of their ability.
Meanwhile, David Ospina only escaped criticism because of an impressive second-half when the Gunners were on the back foot for the majority of the 45 minutes.
The bonus for Arsene Wenger’s men was that they got the away goal in the Parc des Princes which may count if teams in the group finish on the same points.
Iwobi continued: “I think we performed very well and we got a good point. We fought back and we were able to get a point, we weren’t able to get the second goal which we should have got. I should have got it to be fair, but we were a little bit unlucky.”
Arsenal next European game is at home to Basel on September 28, but before that they return to domestic competition with league games at Hull City and at home to Chelsea.
Their first EFL Cup came against Nottingham Forest is sandwiched between the two.
