James Milner Drops Liverpool Hint Amid Aston Villa Links

Former Aston Villa midfielder James Milner has stated that he would like to continue playing for Liverpool beyond the end of his current contract.

The 37-year-old’s current contract expires in the summer, and he hasn’t signed an extension head of the next campaign.

He was believed to be going back to Villa Park last summer, but after helping the Reds win the FA Cup and EFL Cup, place second in the Premier League, and advance to the Uefa Champions League final in 2021–2022, he signed a new one-year contract.

Milner has made 30 appearances in all competitions this season, eight of which saw him wear the captain’s armband, showing that manager Jurgen Klopp still has faith in the veteran player.

After receiving his MBE on Tuesday, Milner’s comments imply that he isn’t quite ready to hang his boots up.

“It’s easy to say yes after the result we had at the weekend obviously,” Milner said after he was asked whether he was still enjoying playing professional football at his age.

“I think everyone you speak to, Kammy [Chris Kamara], he was saying you should play as long as you can.

“I feel very fortunate to be playing at an amazing club like Liverpool. In an amazing team that I’m playing with. I feel like I can still contribute and I feel good physically the majority of days so I’ll keep working hard.

“I just want to keep contributing to a massive club like Liverpool and hopefully make an impact both on and off the field.”

Milner is fondly remembered by the Aston Villa faithful for his three seasons across two spells at Villa Park.
