Jamie Carragher has referred to Rio Ferdinand as ‘a clown’ in response to the former Manchester United defender’s criticism of Carragher’s comments about the Africa Cup of Nations.
The former Manchester United player accused his Premier League opponent of illiteracy when Carragher said that AFCON triumph would not help Mohamed Salah’s prospects of winning the Ballon d’Or.
Salah, who is having an outstanding season under Arne Slot at Liverpool, has already contributed 42 goals as the Reds chase domestic and European glory. According To Express News.
There is increasing speculation that the Egyptian might be voted the world’s best player, but Carragher controversially said that AFCON was not a significant competition, which he believes has hampered Salah’s prospects of recognition.

Ferdinand acknowledged that many people would agree with Carragher’s point of view, saying, “I think that comment is representative of the majority of people out there. I don’t think that’s right.”
He went on to say, “I think that’s an ignorant thought process because if you go to Didier Drogba, Abedi Pele, Samuel Eto’o and down to the players now like Riyad Mahrez, Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, they will tell you: ‘We have to win this’
“There is a demand in their country to win this. Yes, it is not resource-backed in the same way as Euros are, but this does not mean that it must be devalued.
“It’s continent of huge power and a continent that contributes to European football through players immensely, massively.”
