Jamie Carragher has compared the quality of previous title-winning Arsenal clubs to the current crop, which has failed to win the Premier League on many occasions.
Under Mikel Arteta, the Gunners have come agonisingly close to winning the Premier League twice, finishing barely behind record-breaking Manchester City with a significant point difference.
Following back-to-back title battles, Arsenal looked for third time fortunate this season, inspired by Manchester City’s unexpected slump, which left the defending champions outside the Champions League spots after 22 games.
However, Liverpool appears to have surpassed City as the Premier League’s standout team, pulling six points ahead of second-placed Arsenal with a game in hand.

Liverpool have been excellent under Jurgen Klopp’s replacement Arne Slot, losing only two games all season, therefore Arsenal’s title hopes should be encouraged by their current position.
However, Arteta’s team is not demonstrating the amazing consistency that they have shown over the prior two seasons, losing points in nearly half of their league games and winning fewer matches than high-flying Nottingham Forest.
Carragher questions Arsenal’s title credentials and has pointed out the difference in quality between the current Gunners side and the one that won the Premier League under Arsene Wenger in 1997-98.
On Sky Sports‘ Monday Night Football, Liverpool veteran Emmanuel Petit discussed Arsenal’s title ambitions, saying, ‘I’ll give you three reasons [why Arsenal can’t win the league].
‘They [Petit’s Arsenal squad in 1997-98] included Marc Overmars, Nicolas Anelka, and Dennis Bergkamp.
This team currently consists of Gabriel Martinelli, Leandro Trossard, and Kai Havertz. It’s not enough.
While Carragher doubts Arsenal’s capacity to win the Premier League, Petit believes his former side will challenge Liverpool this season.
