Following Manchester United’s abysmal 4-0 defeat to Crystal Palace, former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher suggested that Casemiro’s performance signifies the end of his time as a top-level player, advising the midfielder to consider a move to MLS or Saudi Arabia.
Injuries to the United squad forced Casemiro into an unfamiliar defensive position where he struggled alongside Jonny Evans, conceding four goals against Palace’s potent front three.
Carragher asserted that the aging Brazil international should recognize that his best days are behind him, despite his illustrious Champions League success with Real Madrid
Jamie Carrager Suggests Why Casemiro Should be Sold
After signing a four-year contract to join United from Real Madrid two years prior, Casemiro has two more years left on his contract. Former Liverpool defender Carragher stated that United should consider moving Casemiro on.
“I informed him at the half that he needed to take Casemiro off,” Carragher stated on Sky Sports.

“I’m being dead serious when I say that Casemiro should realize that he should only play three more games at the highest level—the remaining two league games and the [FA Cup] final—and that he should be thinking about moving to the MLS or Saudi Arabia.
“I’m talking really seriously. He needs to be told to stop by his agent or those in his immediate vicinity. As he holds [Toni] Kross and [Luka] Modric on either side, who could easily take on the Barcelona midfield we all know and love, we are witnessing one of the greatest players of our time playing in a position occupied by one of the greatest midfielders of our time.
“Although I will never be able to match that man’s accomplishments, I always recall something from my retirement. As a football player, I always remembered this remark. Before the football leaves you, give it up. He is no longer at the top of the football game. At this point in his football career, he has to move on.”
Casemiro, despite a stellar first season and impressive cup final performance, has seen a notable drop in form and consistency in his second year at Old Trafford, suggesting that even the greatest players can struggle to maintain their peak level.
Before concluding their Premier League campaign on the road against Brighton, United play Arsenal and Newcastle at home. With Newcastle and Chelsea reviving, United finds itself in a competitive race for sixth place.
On May 25, Ten Hag’s team will face Manchester City in the FA Cup final—a rematch of the match that Pep Guardiola’s team won the previous year.
