Crystal Palace defender Joachim Andersen has revealed that he received death threats and thousands of abusive messages as a result of Darwin Nunez’s red card in Liverpool’s 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace on Monday evening.
Nunez headbutted Andersen after the Dane so irritated the new Liverpool signing that he became crimson. However, in an Instagram post on Tuesday morning, Andersen has stated that he received ‘300-400’ death threats via Instagram DMs in the hours following the match.
Nunez has received an influx of criticism for his actions, with even Jurgen Klopp saying that a big-money signing had made a serious “mistake,” but Reds fans around the world chose to vent their rage on Andersen at the final whistle, rather than raise a finger of blame at their own player.

Andersen took to social media after a heated incident on Merseyside to describe the severity of his abuse, with his family drawn into a muddy debate by online trolls.
He wrote on Instagram; Got maybe 3-400 of these messages last night. I understand you support a team but have respect and stop act tough online.”
Andersen posted a series of screenshots that contained threats like “I will kill you,” before adding, “Hope Instagram and the Premier League do something about this.”

Nunez faces a three-match ban after receiving a straight red card, the first for aggressive behaviour during Klopp’s tenure at Liverpool.
Andersen revealed his plan to get under the South American’s skin, saying, “The whole game I sat really close to him, I annoyed him a lot and did well against him. I think that’s why he was angry with me.
“He headbutted me, the first one, at a cross, and I told him he shouldn’t do that. I was angry with him. Then he did it again which is, for me, really stupid, so it’s a clear red card.”
Klopp has promised to speak with a summer signing about his behaviour, while Reds defender Virgil van Dijk understands that a Premier League newcomer must quickly learn how to deal with the demands of life in England.
“He has to control himself, definitely.” the Dutch defender said.
“Obviously he was disappointed and also probably with himself. I think that’s a separate thing, he has to manage himself, he has to be knowing that these things can happen, especially in the Premier League.”
