Hapoel Be’er Sheva’s midfielder John Ogu has expressed gratitude to God and appreciated clubmate and compatriot Anthony Nwakaeme who he defeated to win the best foreign player award in the Isreali Ligat Al as voted for by the captains of the teams in the division.
In a message on Instagram, the Super Eagles star wrote: “Firstly I want to say a big thank you to GOD almighty for everything to my family, friends and my beloved fans of Hapoel Beer Sheva who voted for me as the best foreign player in the league.
“Got nominated with my favorite player in the World and my bro Tony Nwakaeme. Bro it is for us. God bless us all.”
According to reports monitored by Completesportsnigeria.com, the Nigerian midfielder chalked up 62.4% of the votes in the poll beat Nwakaeme, who came second with 21.6%.
Nikita Rokabitzih came third in the poll while the duo of Elyaniv Barda and Yarin Hassan completed the top five in fourth and fifth positions respectively.
Ogu who has scored four goals in 35 games this season could make history with Hapoel Be’er Sheva by winning the Ligat Al for the first time in 40 years with a win on Saturday if they beat Bnei Sakhnin in the final day of their season.
Meanwhile, Ogu has stated clearly that he remains focused on helping his side win the Israeli Ligat Al.
“Biggest focus is on Saturday and with God on our side, we shall smile,” he wrote.
