John Terry offered his full backing of dropped England captain Wayne Rooney, calling for more respect to be shown to a ‘great player and man.’
The defender posted a picture of Rooney on Instagram with a lengthy caption in praise of the under-fire Manchester United player.
Terry wrote: ‘Wayne Rooney, England’s highest record goalscorer in the history of our game.
‘Soon to be the most capped player our great country has ever produced.
‘One of the very best players I have seen and had the pleasure playing with in my lifetime and a man who has given everything for England.
‘An absolute LEGEND at Everton,Man Utd, England and world football. We should all show more respect to this great player and man.
‘Let’s all get behind Wayne and the England team tomorrow.’
England’s interim manager, Gareth Southgate took the decision to drop out- of-form Rooney for the upcoming World Cup qualifier against Slovenia.
The man himself admitted he is in a ‘difficult period’ as the player who has given so much to his country is struggling to perform at the level fans have come to expect from him.
