Jones admits GB surprise

Josh Jones says he wasn’t expecting to be included in the Great Britain squad but is desperate to make the most of the opportunity. Jones, 26, helped Salford Red Devils reach the Grand Final last season and has agreed a switch to Hull FC ahead of the 2020 campaign. The second-row has been rewarded for his strong performances at Salford with a place in Wayne Bennett’s squad for tour of New Zealand and Papua New Guinea, which begins with a clash with Tonga on Saturday. “I feel like I’ve had a good year playing with Jackson [Hastings] at Salford and hopefully I’ll be able to replicate my performances for the Great Britain side,” said Jones, as reported by the Hull FC website. “The first job is going to be to get the win and hopefully I’ll be able to help the team towards that. “I was absolutely delighted to be named in the squad. I wasn’t really expecting the call-up but I’m really excited to get stuck in with the boys and pull the shirt on.”
