Jones allays duo injury fears

England have revealed both Jonny May and Owen Farrell are recovering well from dead legs and will be fit for the World Cup final. The Leicester wing picked up the injury during Saturday’s semi-final win over New Zealand, but hopes are high he will be ready to face South Africa at the weekend. May was battling a hamstring in the lead up to the clash with the All Blacks and head coach Eddie Jones added he is in better condition now than he was this time last week. “We had a walk through this [Monday] morning and we had to tell Jonny to slow down a bit,” the England coach said. Meanwhile, Farrell also picked up a dead leg in the first-half against New Zealand, leaving George Ford to take over the kicking duties, but Jones again revealed the fly-half will be fine. “Owen’s a bit sore but he’ll be fine,” Jones added. “We’ve got a few others carrying bumps and bruises because it was a tough old game.” On Monday England were also waiting for Saracens scrum-half Ben Spencer to join up with the squad as replacement for Willi Heinz, who suffered a hamstring injury against New Zealand. “It is tough for Willi. He’s been a great contributor and a very well-liked member of the squad and was in tears in the dressing room,” said Jones. “He has collected himself and knows he has another role to do for us and will fulfil it well this week.”
