Jordan Henderson made light of the fact that he is a huge admirer of Unai Emery and intended “no disrespect” when he joked that Aston Villa needs Jurgen Klopp to eventually challenge at the top.
Since taking over for Steven Gerrard, Emery has completely changed Villa. illa will face Henderson’s Ajax in the last 16 of that competition, with the first leg being played in Amsterdam on Thursday evening. Speaking at Ajax’s pre-match press conference, former Liverpool captain Henderson was asked what Villa need to step up yet another level in the future and he jokingly replied: “Jurgen Klopp”.
Henderson quickly added: “That’s no disrespect, I’m joking. Emery is a fantastic coach.
“He’s an amazing manager and he will take them from strength to strength and they’ll be looking to get Champions League next season.
“He knows what he’s doing, he just needs to do what he’s been doing his whole career. Jurgen changed everything (at Liverpool) and without him we wouldn’t have won and achieved what we achieved. I was very lucky to achieve what we did.”
