Pickford has started all three of England’s competitions as the starting goalkeeper under Gareth Southgate.
After making it to the semifinals and quarterfinals of the previous two World Cups, they were defeated by Italy on penalties in the Euro 2020 final.
Now, with a team stacked with offensive skill that includes Harry Kane and Jude Bellingham, the pressure is on Southgate and his players to deliver the trophy.
“To be a top, elite team you have got to have pressure, apart from Russia (World Cup) in 2018, where there was no pressure on us,” Pickford said to reporters on Friday.
“You need to take care of it. You have to relish the pressure in order to be one of the favorites.”
Pickford cautioned against complacency, especially in light of England’s shocking 1-0 loss to Iceland in their last warm-up match prior to their departure for Germany.

“That’s our goal (to win the tournament) but the most important thing for us is to win the first game and get out the group,” he stated.
“Winning that trophy is everyone’s ambition, but getting there requires an incredible amount of labor. Not too far in the future, though.
“Every England supporter will be cheering us on. It will be enjoyable because they will be drinking alcohol for a few days.”
Everton’s season off the field was turbulent, as the team lost eight points for breaking financial regulations. However, Pickford’s 13 clean sheets helped the Toffees stay in the Premier League, reports France 24
“I work hard off the pitch and on the pitch I do everything right to the best of my ability,” stated the 30-year-old.
“I want to keep making every effort to get better. That’s what drives me forward. It’s my fourth major competition because of this. I have been Everton’s player of the year for the past three seasons because of this.
“I’m competent at what I do, and I’m always improving. I hope this event turns out well and that I’m acknowledged.”
