Jose Mourinho ‘Very Close’ To Deal For Former Newcastle United Star

Jose Mourinho ,Former Newcastle United winger Allan Saint-Maximin might be set for another big-money move, barely a year after departing Tyneside for Saudi Arabia.

The French star is reportedly close to joining Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce, with his current club Al-Ahli granting the Turkish side permission to meet with him. Saint-Maximin spent four seasons with Newcastle before being sold for about £30 million in 2023 as the club sought to generate revenue to fund future squad enhancements. He was a standout performer during the Steve Bruce era, but he has fallen down the pecking order at United after the arrivals of Anthony Gordon and Alexander Isak, as well as Harvey Barnes from Leicester City last summer.

He has impressed at Al-Ahli, and Mourinho sees the former France U21 star as one of the players who may help turn around the fortunes of the Istanbul giants, who have not won the Turkish Super Lig since 2014. They’ve already signed Rade Krunic from AC Milan, Caglar Soyuncu from Leicester, and Levent Mercan at full-back.

In a packed unveilng, Mourinho had declared: “This shirt is now my skin. Your dreams are now my dreams.”

Saint-Maximin played 124 times for United, scoring 13 goals – many of them eye-catching. Since leaving Tyneside he has continued to follow the fortunes of his old side and regularly posts messages of support on social media.
