Jota Hands Liverpool An Injury Scare As Defender Returns

Diogo Jota is reportedly set to miss Liverpool’s clash against Southampton in the quarter finals of the Carabao Cup after only returning from an injury in the Reds’ 2-2 draw with Fulham at the weekend.

After a two-month absence, the Portuguese scored on his return against Fulham on Saturday after coming off the bench.

Jota is unlikely to start at St. Mary’s, though, as manager Arne Slot acknowledged that he missed Monday’s training due to an impact injury to his upper body sustained against Chelsea back in October.

According to Liverpool Echo, Slot, however, is optimistic Jota will at least be cleared for a place on the bench.

“Diogo would have been definitely one that was ideal for him to play,” said the Liverpool head coach at his press conference this morning. “But after the game, he wasn’t completely fit.

“He didn’t train with us yesterday so let’s see if he can train with us today. Don’t expect him to start. Hopefully he can make some minutes but I don’t expect him to start tomorrow.”
