Diogo Jota is happy that Wolves have been solid and hard to beat this season but knows they need to start winning more games. The West Midlanders have lost just two of their 11 Premier League games so far this term but the problem is, they have only won a couple as well.
Seven draws have helped Nuno Espirito Santo’s side to 12th in the standings but there is a sense that they could be a lot higher with more clinical finishing in the business area of the pitch.
The distraction of playing in the Europa League may not have helped but the Molineux outfit have performed well in Europe’s second-tier competition, sitting second behind Braga in Group K with two wins from three.
There is no question that Nuno has a talented group of players at his disposal and they are a tough nut to crack for most top-flight sides, but Jota acknowledges that they could do with a few three-pointers sooner rather than later. “I’m glad that we are scoring and we are drawing tough matches, but of course we want to win,” he told the club’s official website. “We are always thinking about the things we could do better and we need to start winning more games to give us more points.”
The men in gold and black are back in European action this week as they welcome Slovakian side Slovan Bratislava to Wolverhampton on Thursday.
The Belasi are just two points behind Nuno’s men and so it is a pivotal clash in the race to qualify for the knockout stage, with Braga one point clear at the top of the group.
There is then the little matter of a West Midlands derby against Dean Smith’s Aston Villa at the weekend, with the Villans just two points and four places behind Wolves.
