Liverpool are keeping an eye on West Ham’s Nayef Aguerd ahead of a possible summer transfer.
Jurgen Klopp will be planning a defensive makeover shortly, and with Joel Matip’s contract expiring next summer, he appears to be the first to depart. The Reds overhauled their midfield over the summer, and a similar pattern might emerge at the back in 2024.
Liverpool are exploring a deal for Hammers centre-back Aguerd, according to The Sun, as Klopp looks to bolster his defensive options at the conclusion of the season. The 27-year-old, who joined the London Stadium from Rennes for £30 million last summer, has also piqued the interest of Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City.

Aguerd has made three Premier League appearances this season, however he was unavailable for West Ham’s 3-1 win over Chelsea after scoring and being sent off. He returned to the squad to face Luton Town before the international break and impressed as the Hammers won 2-1.
But it was his performance in the Europa Conference League last season that stood out, as West Ham went on to win the competition. After missing until November due to an ankle injury, Aguerd returned just before the World Cup and helped Morocco reach the semi-finals.
Aguerd started each of Morocco’s first four games, including the penalty shootout triumph over Spain, but missed the quarter-final victory against France due to a thigh injury. Upon his return to West Ham, Aguerd established himself as a regular starter in the second part of the season.
The ex-Rennes defender made a further 17 Premier League starts and played in five of West Ham’s six European matches en route to the Conference League final in 2023. Aguerd started against Fiorentina in Prague and shone as the Hammers won their first major trophy for 43 years.
