Jurgen Klopp, the manager of Liverpool, claimed on Thursday that his team “lost the plot” against Atalanta and that they deserved to lose 3-0 in the first leg of their Europa League quarterfinal.
Mario Pasalic completed a thrilling victory at Anfield after Gianluca Scamacca scored twice before halftime, as Liverpool suffered their second-heaviest home loss in European competition.
“Oh my goodness, that game was awful. We had a great start, but we didn’t keep it up. We simply lost the plot a little bit—we were everywhere and nowhere—even before they scored, Klopp said to reporters.
“The midfield was arranged with the striker, left midfielder, right midfielder, and left side on each side. That was really odd; I didn’t realize that. That’s known as tactical discipline in football.

“We played a bad game, we deserved to lose and we must feel that now.”
Liverpool’s goal in the second leg in Italy is to come back from a deficit, but first they have to play their Premier League match against Crystal Palace on Sunday.
Klopp stated, as reported by ESPN, that the players needed to bounce back from Thursday’s loss fast because the Merseyside team is in a close race for the championship with Manchester City and Arsenal.
“The boys have exactly this night to feel bad about it and then we have to build up again for the Crystal Palace game, that’s how it is,” he continued.
“This was a low point for us performance-wise tonight, I would say, for a long time.”
