Juventus refuse to negotiate with Chelsea as Blues table £85m bid for Chiesa

Chelsea have reportedly failed with an £85million bid to sign Federico Chiesa, with Juventus ruling out any possibility of selling the forward this summer.

The 23-year-old starred for Italy and was named in UEFA’s Euro 2020 Team of the Tournament after Roberto Mancini’s men won the tournament, beating England in the final on penalties.

Chiesa only joined Juventus last summer on a two-year loan deal worth £8.5m (€10m) with an obligation to buy him for a further £34m (€40m) plus a further £8.5m in bonuses after the end of the 2021-22 season.

But Bild claim that while the Blues have submitted an offer in the region of £85m for the Italy international. However, the Serie A giants have declined to enter negotiations for Chiesa and have dismissed the offer out of hand.

Chiesa impressed in his first season at the Allianz Stadium, netting 15 goals in 46 appearances across all competitions as Juventus squeezed into the Serie A top four and also won the Coppa Italia.

Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich have also been linked with a move and boss Julian Nagelsmann played down a move for the ‘outstanding’ Italy star.

‘He’s good but expensive,’ Nagelsmann told Bild am Sonntag.

‘He is a super player, because he embodies incredible verve and dynamism,’ added the Bayern coach.

‘I’ve known him for a long time and think he’s outstanding because he’s so carefree, likes to dribble and looks for the finish very quickly. But he also has a very, very big price tag.’

His compatriot Thomas Tuchel however is keen to bring in attacking reinforcements in their bid to defend their Champions League crown in the upcoming season.

The Stamford Bridge outfit have been linked with a mega-money move for Erling Haaland, who arrived back at Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday for his first day of pre-season training.

Reports on Tuesday suggested Blues owner Roman Abramovich had released funds to help his club sign the £150m-rated Norway striker, but Dortmund sporting director Sebastian Kehl has refuted claims Haaland will join Chelsea this summer.
