Juventus have been confirmed champions of Italy for a fifth successive season and for the 32nd time in their history, after Napoli failed to beat AS Roma today in the capital.
Massimiliano Allegri’s memorable day gets even better, after becoming the first team to win the Serie A title five times in a row on two separate occasions.
The Old Lady overcame the tricky trip to Florence on Sunday, after beating Paulo Sousa’s Fiorentina side 2-1 at the Stadio Artemio Franchi.
The victory was largely due to the fine shot-stopping capabilities over Italy international and Old Lady veteran Gianluigi Buffon, who made a number of fantastic saves including one from the penalty spot.
However, over the season no one has been more rampant than Allegri’s side and they have been officially crowned champions today, after the scenes which unravelled in the capital.
Luciano Spalletti’s Roma side defeated Maurizio Sarri’s men 1-0 at the Stadio Olimpico after a late Radja Nainggolan goal, leaving Napoli 12 points behind Juventus with just three games to go.
It marks the remarkable success Juventus have had over the last few seasons, after they won the title three seasons in a row under Antonio Conte.
Allegri came in during the summer of 2014 and continued that stunning record by lifting the title last term, as well as the Coppa Italia and reaching the Champions League final.
The former AC Milan boss has proven he is no one-season wonder with another brilliant campaign, in which they have lifted yet another title.
No Italian team has won more titles than Juventus (34) and that comes despite them having a couple stripped away from their cabinet for the match-fixing scandal a decade ago.
