Kamaru Usman Expresses ‘disappointment’ in Jorge Masvidal’s Alleged Attack On Colby Covington: ‘I Don’t Think Anyone Had Justification To Do That’

Kamaru Usman has commented in on the alleged incident in Miami Beach, Florida, involving his previous two opponents.

In March, Jorge Masvidal allegedly assaulted Colby Covington outside of a restaurant, resulting two separate charges, including aggravated battery. According to court filings, Masvidal struck Covington with a deadly weapon, causing serious bodily injury, which has now been documented as a “brain injury.”

The current UFC welterweight champion and No. 1 pound-for-pound fighter in MMA Fighting’s Global Rankings gave his opinion to the situation on Saturday.

Usman told reporters backstage at UFC 274, “I was a little disappointed in that.” “I expressed my dissatisfaction on Twitter. I was disappointed in what they did, but that’s life. Some people react in a certain manner when you say certain things that push certain buttons, and we saw the result of that.”
The champ is well aware of what it’s like to have verbal venom spewed in his face by Covington, but he doesn’t believe anyone deserves what reportedly transpired that night in Miami Beach.

“I don’t think anyone had a justification to do that,” Usman stated.  “If two guys in [the media room] started fighting, there’s no justification for that.   You should be able to “use your words” as a man, as your folks would say. If you can’t, sign a UFC contract, get into the cage, and take care of business.”

What Conspired Between UFC fighter Jorge Masvidal And Rival Colby Covington?

According to an arrest affidavit, Masvidal  turned himself in to police on Wednesday night and was charged with aggravated battery and criminal mischief.

Covington claims Masvidal punched him twice in the face during the alleged confrontation outside Papi Steak restaurant on Monday about 11 p.m.
The victim’s identity was withheld from the complaint, but TMZ Sports has footage of Covington talking about the alleged incident outside the restaurant. According to ESPN, Masvidal named Covington in a clip that was shared on Twitter after the incident and then deleted.

Covington told the authorities.  Masvidal approached him as he was leaving the restaurant and struck him “without notice or warning.” According to the document, Covington was struck in the mouth and eye with a closed fist, resulting in a fractured tooth.

According to the affidavit, Masvidal allegedly stated during the attack, “You shouldn’t have been talking about my kids.”

“Good morning to everyone except those who think talking about someone’s kids is cool,” he tweeted.
