N’Golo Kante has revealed that he is relishing playing in Chelsea‘s new formation as it provides him with greater freedom to go forward.
The Blues have been hugely impressive since manager Antonio Conte switched to a 3-4-3 system and Kante has perhaps been the primary beneficiary, with the Frenchman having delivered an excellent performance in the 3-0 victory over his former side Leicester City on Saturday.
As reported by the London Evening Standard, Kante said: “The new system is working well.
“We have been better with and without the ball, and we have conceded fewer chances. Personally I like the system too.
“My job in a defensive central midfield position is to cut off attacks against us, but it has been a bit different in the past two games as I have been able to get forward a bit myself.”
Kante’s form had previously been a little concerning following his summer switch from Leicester City, but he was back to his very best against the Foxes as he registered an average pass accuracy of 87%, while he also made five defensive actions.
Chelsea’s new system has also helped to get the best out of Victor Moses and Marcos Alonso, who have been hugely impressive as wing-backs, and the formation seems perfectly tailored for Kante, who is capable of making an outstanding contribution both defensively and in an attacking sense. The Frenchman, who earns £100,000-a-week, has won £40% of his tackles and completed 90% of his passes this term.
The Blues, who have won their last two Premier League games, will be seeking to register another victory when they host Manchester United on Sunday in their next fixture.
