Karim Benzema Out Of France’s World Cup Opener Against Australia

Karim Benzema’s World Cup future has been thrown into disarray as the 2022 Ballon d’Or winner is forced to miss France’s opening game against Australia on Tuesday.

The Real Madrid striker saw his first training session in the middle-east brought to an early conclusion after Benzema was injured.

The Real Madrid striker had just returned to full training along with Manchester United’s Raphael Varane, but the good news didn’t last long with Benzema having to leave the session.

He is set for scans before his future participation in the tournament is decided.

The France striker will miss his side’s opening World Cup game as revealed by L’Equipe, but could also see his participation in the tournament brought to an end before it had even got underway.

Benzema has reportedly suffered a new injury setback, not a reoccurrence of his knee and hamstring problems that have so far seen him train alone alongside other injury doubtful Raphael Varane.

There were claims in Spain of ‘monumental anger’ that Benzema was saving himself for France, but that now looks to be unfounded with the striker clearly struggling.

France begin their title defence against Australia on Tuesday, before going on to face Denmark and Tunisia.
